Infrastructure Assessment - 13 Sep 05

Having recently had an audit conducted on an outsourced webhosting environment in a major Asian financial hub, it was apparent the security structure in place was not adequate. All sites hosted in this environment were considered at a HIGH risk of compromise.

Given the client’s profile as a leading international IT vendor, any security breach would cause material brand damage in addition to financial loss.

The organisation turned to SIFT as their trusted information security partner to assess the security requirement, develop the requirements specification, design the infrastructure and work with internal IT and security personnel to ensure business requirements were met without compromising security.

SIFT completed a series of deliverables to drive the client’s success in this project:

  • Security requirements specifications against which designs could be matched
  • Full network architecture design, down to device-level product selection
  • Ongoing project management tasks including management of issues and risk registers and outstanding requirements
  • Request for Proposal (RFP) to identify the hosting vendor in a major Asian financial hub
  • On-site consulting, installation and verification during the build phase in a major Asian financial hub
  • Application security specifications and guidelines for future development

Through the migration of its Asia-Pacific web hosting infrastructure to the secure site designed by SIFT in conjunction with the client, the company has achieved:

  • Compliance with Head-Office security requirements
  • A reduced risk environment for hosting transactional Internet-based applications
  • Scalability beyond that available with the outsourced hosted environment
  • Shorter time-to-market for new systems seeking to deploy within the secure hosting environment
