Business Continuity
SIFT has extensive experience in offering IT Business Continuity Management (BCM) solutions to a diverse range of organisations from critical infrastructure, banking and finance groups to not-for-profit organisations, in both a security consulting, and intelligence capacity. SIFT can assist your organisation in the development, maintenance, review and testing of your IT Business Continuity strategy, Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Plans (BCP).
BCP and Strategy Development The SIFT BCM methodology utilises industry best practice such as the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) Good Practice Guidelines 2005, HB 221 and the APRA BC Prudential Standard, and incorporates the following steps:
- Understanding the client's business processes and strategic requirements
- Defining and developing BCM strategies in consultation with our client
- Developing and implementing a BCM response capability in the form of a set of pragmatic DR/BCP Action Plans
- Developing a BCM culture throughout the client organisation through education and awareness of staff
- Assisting the client in the exercising, maintenance and audit of existing BCM programs
In recent consulting engagements, SIFT authored the BCM / DR framework for a 20,000+ user institution-wide CRM/Imaging system deployment at a major Australian banking corporation, encompassing scenario definitions, business impact analysis (BIA) and emergency response procedure development. Other recent BCM projects included the development of worldwide BCM strategy, policy and architectural requirements for an ASX200 construction company and the development of BCM frameworks for a multinational not-for-profit organisation.
SIFT has also designed and implemented technical solutions to BCM challenges, including the development of a security requirements specification for a 514-seat "hot" business continuity and recovery facility for a major Australian banking corporation.
BCM Research In an intelligence capacity, SIFT has researched in detail the Australian regulatory requirements for BCM and DR, and has produced articles published both within Australia and internationally. Such reports and intelligence notes have included:
- Business Continuity: Understanding BCP & DR, Feb 2006
- Business Continuity: A Guide for the Small to Medium-sized Enterprise (SME), Jan 2006
- Business Continuity: APRA BCM Standard Released, Aug 2005
- Planning for Catastrophes: The Importance of Rationalism, Jul 2005
- Business Continuity: The Risk of Not Exercising, Apr 2005
- Business Continuity: Importance of Security in Transit, Apr 2005
With a strong research & intelligence capability, SIFT has developed materials including Denial of Service / Distributed Denial of Service (Dos/DDoS) intelligence papers for the Australian Government's Department of Communications, IT and the Arts, for owners and operators of Critical Infrastructure. These reports seek to identify operational and technical management solutions for mitigating the risk of DoS attacks, where BCP & DR are key elements of such a solution. The reports can be downloaded from www.tisn.gov.au and www.dcita.gov.au/ie, and links are provided here:
